Looking For A Fireplace? Go With Gas

Posted on

A fireplace can be such a lovely, relaxing addition to your home. There are thousands of different styles and options out there, but when it comes down to it, they all fall into two camps: gas and wood. While wood-burning fireplaces are the most conventional, gas is really taking the fireplace world by storm. Here are some advantages you can enjoy when you choose a gas fireplace over the wood options.

1. There won't be any ash or soot around your home.

When a wood fireplace is well-maintained, it should not exude a lot of soot or ash. However, all it takes is a little less vigilance about cleaning, and your home will start getting that ashy residue around the fireplace. You don't have to worry about this with gas. It is clean-burning, and all of the exhaust is gaseous in form and can be pushed through the exhaust pipe. The area around your fireplace will stay cleaner, and your items won't be ruined by ash accumulation.

2. You won't have to store wood.

Having to store firewood is quite a hassle. You are always sweeping up the bark and bits that chip off, and you have to worry about insects like termites invading the wood pile. Plus, sourcing the wood can be tough. There may not be a lot of people selling wood in your area, so getting it stacked and delivered may take a lot of phone calls. A gas fireplace just burns the natural gas that comes in through your ordinary gas line. There's nothing to store or source; you just pay the gas bill every month,

3. Gas fireplaces are more likely to be legal.

Due to concerns with ash and chimney fires, wood-burning fireplaces are illegal in some areas. Some homeowners associations do not allow them, either. Gas-burning fireplaces, on the other hand, are almost always permitted. They're really no different than a gas oven or gas cooktop. You don't have to worry about getting in trouble or applying for a variance.

4. Burning gas is better for the planet.

Burning wood is actually quite a polluting process. It releases a lot of toxins and greenhouse gasses. Burning natural gas is much cleaner and better for the planet in the long run, which makes it the better choice for anyone with eco-friendly goals.

When you're in the market for a fireplace, go with gas! It's a better choice for so many reasons.
